Inside the Bailey Minchington Running Scholarship Team 2025 Education Series
At the heart of the Bailey Minchington Running Scholarship Program is a simple belief: when young athletes are supported as whole people, their performance, confidence, and wellbeing all grow.
In 2025, alongside financial support and community connection, the Scholarship Team is participating in a dedicated Education Series designed to equip young runners with practical knowledge that supports both their running journey and their development beyond sport.
The series brings together industry professionals and experienced practitioners to guide athletes across four critical areas: goal setting and performance planning, injury prevention and rehabilitation, nutrition, and mental health and wellbeing.
Goal Setting & Planning for Performance
Learning how to train and race with purpose
Strong performance doesn’t happen by chance. In this session, athletes explore how to set meaningful goals, build structured training plans, and stay adaptable when things don’t go to plan.
Key learnings include:
Setting short-, medium- and long-term goals
Understanding the link between consistency, patience and progress
Balancing ambition with recovery, study, work and life commitments
Developing routines that support both performance and wellbeing
These skills extend well beyond running—helping athletes build discipline, focus and resilience in all areas of life.

RunAsOne co-founder Riley Cocks (middle) gather for the Goal Setting & Planning for Performance Session.
Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation
Staying healthy, informed and resilient
Injury is an inevitable part of many sporting journeys, but how athletes respond to setbacks can shape their long-term relationship with sport.
This part of the Education Series focuses on:
Understanding common running-related injuries
The importance of strength, mobility and recovery
Recognising early warning signs and knowing when to seek support
Reframing injury as a learning opportunity rather than a failure
Athletes are encouraged to listen to their bodies, ask questions, and take a proactive role in their own health—skills that promote longevity in sport and confidence in decision-making.
Nutrition for Training, Recovery and Life
Fuelling performance and wellbeing
Nutrition plays a vital role in both physical performance and mental clarity. This session helps athletes build a practical, sustainable understanding of how to fuel their bodies through training, competition and everyday life.
Topics include:
Everyday nutrition for runners
Fuelling before, during and after training
Supporting recovery and energy levels
Developing a positive, balanced relationship with food
Rather than rigid rules, the focus is on education, awareness and long-term habits that support both performance and overall health.
Mental Health & Wellbeing
Looking after the mind as well as the body
True performance is not just physical. The mental health and wellbeing session creates space for open conversations around pressure, motivation, confidence and balance.
Athletes explore:
The connection between exercise and mental wellbeing
Managing expectations, stress and setbacks
Building self-awareness and emotional resilience
Knowing when and how to seek support
This session reinforces that mental wellbeing is not a weakness—but a foundation for both performance and a healthy life.
More Than an Education Series
A foundation for life
While the content is highly relevant to running, the impact of the Bailey Minchington Running Scholarship Team 2025 Education Series goes much further. The knowledge and skills shared help athletes:
Make informed decisions
Develop confidence and independence
Build healthy habits for the long term
Carry lessons from sport into study, work and relationships
Above all, the series reflects the values at the core of the Scholarship Program: community, care, growth and connection.
We are incredibly grateful to the experts who contribute their time and knowledge, and to the broader community whose support makes this program possible. Together, we are helping young runners grow not only as athletes—but as people.
