On a radiant morning in Adelaide, South Australia, over 300 individuals gathered at the SA Athletics Stadium on Friday, December 20, 2024, to participate in the first-ever Bailey's Run. This 3km and 5km run, walk, or wheel event was organized in loving memory of Bailey Minchington, who tragically passed away in November 2024 at the age of 25. Bailey's Run was conceived as a tribute to his passion for running and his commitment to mental health awareness.
Bailey discovered the transformative power of running in 2022, finding solace and purpose within the vibrant running community. His dedication culminated in completing his first marathon in August 2024 with an impressive time of 2 hours and 50 minutes. Through this achievement, he raised nearly $7,000 for mental health charities, reflecting his unwavering commitment to supporting others facing similar challenges.
The inaugural Bailey's Run served as a major fundraiser, with proceeds directed towards running scholarship programs for youth aged 14-25 and other mental health charities. These scholarships aim to provide young runners with access to coaching, running gear, event entry fees, and travel expenses, fostering both athletic development and mental well-being.
The event's success was made possible through the collaboration between Bailey's family and the RunAsOne Community, whose support was instrumental in bringing this vision to life. The overwhelming turnout and heartfelt participation underscored the profound impact Bailey had on those around him and the broader community.
Looking ahead, Bailey's Run is set to become an annual event, continuing to honor Bailey's legacy and promote mental health awareness through the unifying power of running. The next Bailey's Run is scheduled for Friday, December 20, 2025, inviting participants from around the world to join in spirit and solidarity.
