Meet the one and only ANTMAN—our resident ant keeper, red Ciele cap enthusiast, and proud BMRST2025 team member! When he’s not tending to his five ant colonies or dodging philosophical snail dilemmas on long runs, you’ll find him chasing PBs down the City2Bay course or fuelling up with a banana and honey (or crumpets if it's go-time!). A morning runner through and through, he thrives on the physical and mental boost running brings to the start of his day. His go-to race distance? The half-marathon—long enough to test the training, short enough to hang on for glory. From Foo Fighters to The Prodigy, his playlist hits hard, just like his running heroes Nedd Brockmann and Izzi Batt-Doyle. And yes, his Garmin Epix Gen 2 is always on—except when charging (briefly), during which he’s left to face the wrath of a brutal watch tan. For him, being part of the BMRST2025 team is nothing short of honoured—and with his energy, curiosity, and commitment, we’re just as honoured to have him.
Some fun facts about Jamison
★What’s your go-to pre-run snack?
Banana with honey is the go to, but if I need an extra boost a crumpet with creamed honey is the ultimate pre run fuel for me
★Do you prefer early morning or evening runs—and why?
Definitely morning, it’s the best way to start the day, a run prepares you mentally and physically for the day ahead! I also tend to have the most energy to get the most out of my sessions. Whereas in the evening I prefer to be winding down or spending time with friends or family as I'm usually lower on energy.
★ What’s your go-to post-run snack?
Eggs from our chickens! Any way shape or form, Just not hard boiled, yolk MUST be runny
★What's your favorite race course?
So far there’s no course I’ve enjoyed more then the City2Bay, the subtle downhill shaves off 5-10s per K, the perfect course to smash a PB.
★What is your favourite race distance?
The Half-Marathon has to be my favourite currently. Definitely a challenging distance, too far to really put the Jets on, but short enough to hang onto a speedy pace. It’s these factors that really put all the hard training to the test, and crossing the finish line is just an incredible feeling if you manage to get everything right.
★What race distance scares you most?
The 5k and the Marathon. The 5k is painful from start to finish and I’ve always found it hard to settle into any kind of rhythm it’s just pain!
The Marathon on the other hand is daunting because of the incredible mileage involved in properly preparing for one, Although I can’t wait to have a crack one soon!
★If you could run anywhere in the world, where would it be?
This is a great question that I really haven’t given much thought, In the Olympics if the first thing that come to mind, but otherwise I imagine it would be hard to match the atmosphere of running in any of the world major marathons!
★What’s the weirdest thought you’ve had on a long run?
There are too many, the strangest thoughts always arise on long runs, particularly with certain people. A recent one was if I would take $10 million, but a snail would be chasing me wherever I went that would kill me if it ever caught up.
I’m still undecided…
★What is one piece of gear you can’t live without?
It’s gotta be my watch, I wear an Garmin Epix gen 2, and my red Ciele hat which rarely leaves my head.
My watch is on me 24/7, it’s only ever off briefly to charge, and during this time I feel naked and have to hide the horrendous watch tan, but it’s worth it for the stats and my morning summary.
★Pump-up song that gets you moving?
Picking just 1 is so hard, but I get goosebumps every time I hear The Pretender by the Foo Fighters so I’ll have to pick that.
Honourable mentions:
Thunderstruck, AC/DC
The Horses, Daryl Braithwaite
Breathe, The Prodigy
Butterflies, Skrillex
★Who is your running hero or biggest inspiration?
Nedd Brockman, and Izzy Batt-Doyle
Outside of running, Jane Goodall
★What’s a non-running talent or fun fact about you?
It’s pretty hard to go past Ant Keeping.
I have about 5 ant colonies at home, and I’ve been keeping ants for over 6 years now. They are kept in a designated room along with a variety of other animals, some with no legs, others with up to eight. I’m very lucky to have parents that support my hobbies no matter how odd they are. This also explains the ANTMAN number plate which I get asked about often.
★What does being a member of the BMRST2025 mean to you—in one word?
Honoured
